Longwood Retail Study

On May 20, 2015 the city of Longwood selected Gibbs Planning Group (GPG) of Birmingham, Michigan to perform a comprehensive retail study. Robert Gibbs, the President of GPG, is the author of "Principals of Urban Retail Planning and Development" and the "SmartCode Retail Module." Mr Gibbs lectures frequently throughout the country and teaches in the Executive Education Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. In 2012, Gibbs was recognized by the Clinton Presidential Library for his life's contributions to urban planning and development.

The study, which took 5 months to complete, was presented before the City Commission, staff and residents on October 12 in the Commission Chambers. The study provides the city with valuable information concerning the demographics, psycho-graphics, compatible retailers and possible re-development scenarios for 14 sites throughout the city.

During this period that we are working to improve accessibility to our website for all; you may be able to attain these documents from the Economic Development team, located in the Community Development Building at 174 West Church Ave. or call or email Kristin Zack-Bowen, the Community Development Coordinator (407-260-3462, KZack@longwoodfl.org). As you review these documents it is vital to note that these are living documents; demographics can and will change over time, the scenarios are starting points and most likely will have adjustments made by property owners, developers or due to City Code.

Most recently, we have found that the data produced by the study to be invaluable during the International Shopping Center Convention (ICSC) in Orlando and that the study, in its entirety, and the city's relationship with Gibbs Planning will continue to provide a source of information to potential retailers and a guide to the re-development of the city.
