Flag Retirement Program

When an American flag becomes worn out or torn, the U.S. Flag Code dictates how to respectfully retire it. Flags should never be thrown in the trash, even when they are too old or damaged to fly. The City of Longwood is offering flag retirement boxes for members of the public to properly dispose of U.S. flags.

Flags that are tattered, ragged, dirty, or torn can be dropped off at two of the City of Longwood's parks - Candyland Sports Complex and Reiter Park. Flags brought to these locations will be respectfully retired in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code at an annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Flag Day, June 14.
