[ARCHIVED] Proactive Code Enforcement

The Longwood City Commission approved Resolution 21-1582, which transitions code enforcement actions in residential areas to “proactive,” meaning that, beginning January 1, 2022, code enforcement in residential areas will not need to be initiated by complaints. Regular patrols will begin the first week of January, however, properties with violations identified on patrols will receive an educational notice identifying the violation and notifying the property owner that a notice of violation would be issued on February 1st if the violation is not addressed.

Things To Know

  • To help aid in this transition, staff has prepared a list of common code violations and how to avoid them.
  • Complaints may still be filed on the City's website. However, per changes to Florida State Statutes, staff still cannot initiate an investigation from an anonymous complaint.
  • The staff has also prepared a list of Frequently Asked Questions with answers to some of our most common code-related questions.
  • Violations identified by complaint and clear health and safety violations will still be addressed and a notice of violation would still be issued if the complaint is verified during this educational period.
  • Commercial areas will continue to have proactive enforcement.
